Short Film Review “Greg’s Guardian Angel

Greg's Guardian Angel1 Greg's Guardian Angel2

First, the Recap:

Ever want to have things turn out the way you pictured them? Or perhaps have some advance knowledge of what was to come at a later instant, a key moment that could spell either success or disaster? Well, that may be the case, but what if the voice you were hearing was more annoying than helpful?  What if your guardian angel was a tad bit–off?

Regular guy Greg (Greg Vorob) starts his day off with an unanticipated visitor, his guardian angel (Elmer J. Santos), who immediately provides Greg with some solid advice about his work day. Surprisingly impressing his boss Elliott (Timothy J. Cox) and the company head honcho, Mr. Longshaft II (Jack Moran, Jr.), life seems good.

But, the longer Greg’s angel provides tips, things suddenly become dicey and chaotic, all leading up to a date gone bad with hot co-worker Monica (Caitlin Winter). Maybe having a guardian angel who’s a moron really doesn’t help!

Next, my Mind:

Director Dan Kowalski and writer Dan Conrad’s 10-minute short film tribute to silliness does indeed deliver the goods with this absolutely zany take on the entire concept of having a guardian angel not only watching over you, but truly trying to give advice about everything! Simply filmed and reliant on the comedic timing to capture the goofy hilarity unfolding before us.

Vorob does a fine job at being the initially unwitting, then totally unwilling point of focus for the angel, played wonderfully by Santos, whom this reviewer would normally have accused of trying too hard and overacting–if that hadn’t been the whole point. The banter between the two is quite fun, and that is the comedic chemistry that carries the film.

Supporting turns from Cox, Moran, and Winter add to the frivolity, and in the end, “Greg’s Guardian Angel” leaves one truly wishing against all wishes–that perhaps they’ll take their chances without assistance!

As always, this is all for your consideration and comment.  Until next time, thank you for reading!
