First, the Recap:

Crushes.  At one point or another in life, you’ll experience one.  Perhaps it’s a friend of a friend, or even a co-worker at your job.  They are the reason it is tolerable to be present in whatever situation you find yourself in which they’re involved. You feel like you would do anything for them. Andrew (Erik Potempa) loves coming to work for one reason–the boss’ assistant, Carla (Jocelyn DeBoer). This, of course, is unknown to her, much to the amusement of Andrew’s fellow office worker, David (Michael Oberholtzer).

One particular morning, however, circumstances amass unexpectedly against Carla, who, needing to ensure the boss is pleased and everything is ready when he arrives, realizes she’s forgotten a key element of the routine–his coffee. Jumping at the chance to interact with her, Andrew volunteers to go get the coffee. Little does he realize that the ensuing bout of insanity to get said coffee back to the office will involve having to deal with no money,  a haughty PR consultant, Laura (Mallory Portnoy), and the boss himself, Hamilton Rice (Timothy J. Cox).

But, what is one man willing to do in order to have the opportunity to truly express himself to his unsuspecting object of desire?

Next, my Mind:

East coast-based writer/director Sean Meehan, whom this reviewer has interviewed as well as reviewed several other projects from, scores yet again with this light-hearted and zany 15-minute romp that wonderfully pokes fun at the concept of having a serious crush on someone, thinking you would do anything for them–and then suddenly finding yourself having to actually do just that. Quick-paced, well acted, and smoothly filmed, the narrative moves along fantastically and with full intent to draw the viewer into its web to see what the fate of Andrew and Carla is.

Potempa is entertaining as the affable, well-meaning, and totally non-threatening Andrew, whose only real desire is to have even a chance to converse meaningfully with his office crush and be honest about how he sees her.  Presented in a completely non-creepy way, his innocent obsession getting tangled into a mess involving his boss’ coffee only serves to make the situation even more amusing. The absolutely beautiful DeBoer totally takes your attention away from everything else as Carla, emoting a perfect, bubbly personality and winning smile that makes you easily see why Andrew is smitten.

Add Oberholtzer’s “a little too friendly”-acting David, Portnoy’s deliciously arrogant PR agent Laura, and Cox’s overbearing and equally pompous boss, Hamilton Rice, it is the complete recipe for an ideal slice of indie short film viewing.

As always, this is all for your consideration and comment.  Until next time, thank you for reading!
