Summer Snapshot Review “Jason Bourne”
First, the Recap:
Living off the grid and, relatively, out of harm’s way, ex-CIA agent Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) has found some semblance of escape from the tumultuous journey digging into a past stolen from him via the Treadstone project. However, former agent Nicky Parsons (Julia Stiles) continues to dig, soon finding herself the target of new CIA Director Robert Dewey (Tommy Lee Jones) and agency Cyber-Ops head, Heather Lee (Alicia Vikander). Drawing Bourne out from the shadows, the events find him once again pulled into the past, evading Dewey, Lee, and a CIA asset (Vincent Cassel) bent on killing him. But, as the chaos ensues with Bourne’s resurfacing, bigger agendas unfold involving social media giant Aaron Kalloor (Riz Ahmed) and revelations about Bourne’s father.
Worth Seeing: YES
There’s simply no disputing the fantastic combination of director/co-writer Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon was necessary to bring a storied franchise back to the big screen again, doing it with all the bravado, intensity, character-building, and straight-out action that made the “Bourne” film series a household name. Well-filmed, exciting, blunt force engagements allow Damon’s Bourne to showcase his array of skills, Stiles makes a solid return, while newcomers Jones, Vikander, Ahmed, and Cassel all add new elements of challenge for Bourne’s ongoing desire to finally bury his elusive past and those that made him into what he is. When it all comes to it’s explosive and subtle finale, let’s face it folks, it leaves the viewer knowing–this is how Bourne is meant to be.
As always, this is all for your consideration and comment. Until next time, thank you for reading!
