Short Film Review “My Father’s Teeth”

First, the Recap:
Ever have one of those kind of days? Where everything seems to be going right only to end up in a complete and utter mess? And how much more insane would it get if the chaos wasn’t even centered on what you did–but what your own father managed to do? A man, Josh (Josh Mitchell), has invited his father, Chuck (Chuck Mitchell), to a 40th birthday bender, which goes pretty much how one would expect. That is until the next morning reveals his father has managed to misplace a certain necessity to daily life that kicks off a flash-back driven search for them, along the way unveiling other antics the evening had produced, even his father’s dalliance with a dating app!
Next, my Mind:
Many who have followed my reviews over the years know my general feelings about modern comedy and its content being something I tend to be less than thrilled with overall. While the newest short film from indie writer/director Josh Mitchell delivers 9+ minutes of language-laden dialogue and a bit of visual irreverence, there’s no denying the humor in the circumstance being presented, especially when it’s based on true events and starring Mitchell and his real-life father, Chuck, to boot! Plus, the fact his father messes around with a dating app and ends up mixed up with a girl (Tisa Samphors) out of it does make the drunken shenanigans that much more head-shakingly, slap-to-the-forehead crazy.
Overall, while still not this reviewer’s preferred style of humor, “My Father’s Teeth” just might stand as a cautionary tale about not allowing your father to attend the next party or play with dating apps! Sons, beware!
As always, this is all for your consideration and comment. Until next time, thank you for reading!
