Snapshot Review “Don’t Breathe”

Don't Breathe3 Don't Breathe2 Don't Breathe1

First, the Recap:

It is a good lesson to learn–don’t break into people’s homes, because you never know what you’re really up against! Three friends–Money (Daniel Zovatto), Rocky (Jane Levy), and Alex (Dylan Minnette)–strive to steal from rich folks in order to better their own broken lives. When discovering about a lawsuit settlement won by an socially and societally isolated war vet (Stephen Lang), they make their plan and target his money to finally end their thieving ways and disappear. Additionally finding out the man is blind, all seems like easy pickings. But secrets lie within the home and what’s more–blind does not by any means equal helpless. Soon, the trio is fighting for their very lives, and sinister truths are revealed.

Worth Seeing: Yes & No

**Sigh** Overall, one would think that this reviewer might begin learning his lesson when it comes to any film officially lumped under “horror”, which still isn’t a favorite genre thematically to begin with. Here, the plus is truly Lang, who superbly emotes every ounce of menace–physical and mental, with freaky calmness or explosive violence–that he can in playing The Blind Man. He’s a force to be reckoned with and quite convincingly portrays unhinged. But, other than a decidedly twisted, initially undisclosed revelation about him coming about as part of the final act, if it wasn’t for Lang’s acting presence here, “Don’t Breathe” really sinks into some seriously ridiculous aspects of its premise and almost loses any scares.

As always, this is all for your consideration and comment.  Until next time, thank you for reading!
